Academics


Student Peer Tutors
Wanted:
Are you interested in becoming a Student peer tutor?

Responsibilities:
- Provide tutoring to students
- Offer assistance with developing study strategies
- Work with the tutee to develop a tutoring plan that fits the student’s individual needs
- Prepare tutoring sessions to ensure the tutee’s academic development
- Assess the tutee’s progress throughout tutoring sessions

Tutors will be paid minimum wage for tutoring one or two hours after school based on their availability.

Student Assistant Needed
Ms. Mitoma is looking for a student assistant period 3. If you are available please come to room 245 during power hour before Friday, November 7th. Priority will go to students who have already taken chemistry.



Athletics


Girls Basketball Open Gym
There will be open gym for girls basketball on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm.



Community Service


Education/Public Service Academy
Education/Public Service Academy students are working on several community service projects at this time.

Help EPSA raise money for the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center at Manchester Hospital. Look for EPSA students in the cafeteria this week during Power Hour. Ribbons will be sold for $1.00 each. Thank you for your support.

EPSA students are holding a can/bottle drive to help families in need during the holidays. Please put all empty cans/bottles in the labeled boxes in the cafeteria and near all Swipe stations. They will be collected every day this week. Thank you!



EPSA Food Drive
EPSA students are sponsoring a food drive. Please support the MACC Food Pantry by donating canned goods to help those in need. Drop-off at Swipe station collection boxes. Thank you for your support.



Guidance


New England Tech Nite
New England Tech is hosting Tech Nite (an open house) for prospective students on Wednesday, 11/5/14, from 3PM - 7PM. Stop by at the new campus located at One New England Blvd in East Greenwich, RI. Tour the campus, speak with instructors, meet with financial aid and admission officers.


New England Service Academy Night
The 24th Annual New England Service Academy Night will be held at the Danversport Yacht Club, in Danvers, Ma., on 11/5/14 from 5:00-6:30 PM. Congressional staff will be present to discuss the Academy Appointment , Selection and Nomination process. For more information contact LTC Skip Davison at 802-485-2004.


Admission Rep/Military Recruiter visits to MHS
Admission Reps from the following College/Universities or Military Recruiters will be visiting MHS during the weeks of 10/27/14 –11/07/14: Johnson State, Plymouth State, Mass College of Pharmacy, UMass Amherst, Albertus Magnus, Manhattan College, Post Univ., ECSU and St. Anselm. Sign up in Naviance, under college visits, to meet with them.



Scholarships


Hartford County Retired Teachers' Assoc. Scholarship
High school seniors who reside in Hartford County, attending a Hartford County public high school, and planning to pursue education leading to a career in teaching. Applications are available in the Guidance Office, rm. 117. Deadline - 3/15/15.


Elk Scholarships
Information on the Elk Scholarships are available online at www.elks.org and in Naviance for the Most Valuable Student Scholarship, The Legacy Award and the Emergency Educational Grant. Contact the local Elks Lodge at 860-646-9262 for information for the Elks Eagle Scout and The Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarships. Deadlines vary.


FormSwift $1,000 Scholarship Contest

Student Activities


Turkey Bowl
Calling all junior and senior girls and boys...Turkey Bowl Permission Slips are available in the student activities office. This is a game where the girls play flag football and the boys cheer them on. Completed Forms along with a $10 fee will be collected on a first-come, first-served basis starting on Wednesday, November 5th in the student activities office.


Senior Wear
Attention Seniors! Dont be left out in the cold... Senior wear is being offered again for those of you who didnt have the opportunity to order the first time. Order forms are available in the student activities office and are due to Mrs. Wabble by Nov 21st. Dont Miss out on this great bargain.


Student Ambassador Program Meeting
Please join us for a Student Ambassador Program meeting
Thursday November 6, 2014 at 2:15-3:15 in Room 293
We will be discussing our first project and other project ideas. Be a positive role model in the MHS community! Make a difference! All MHS students are welcome!



Power Hour Wower
Looking for a way to celebrate the end of the quarter? Join us in the courtyard during Power Hour on Friday, October 31st for NHS's first "Power Hour Wower". Enjoy relay races, scavenger hunts, and other fun games. Tickets will be awarded to participants and winners and they will be entered into a drawing for a $20 gift certificate to Shady Glen. See you in the courtyard!


NHS Meeting
There will be a meeting of the National Honor Society in Room 293 on Wednesday, November 5 at 2:15. Also, please remember to bring your Volunteer Hours Forms to Mrs. Grayson in Room 220.
