Administration


ELECTRONIC DEVICES POLICY
Just a reminder about the school electronic device policy. Any electronic communication device is to be neither visible,turned on nor used during the school day(7:30am to 2:05pm) Any personal electronic device and /or accessories for these devices(IPOD,CD,DVD PLAYER, EARPHONES,EAR BUDS) are not to be visible,turned or used during the school day (7:30 to 2:05) Parents/guardians and students can expect that any electronic device or personal communication device will be confiscated, if visible, turned on or used during the school day. Students are expected to wear their IDs in a visible location.



Athletics


Boys Golf
Boys Golf will have a meeting Thursday February 23rd at 2:15 in Room 213. See Coach Wry or Assistant Coach Mikkelsen with any Questions.


Softball
There will be a meeting on Wednesday February 22nd for any girl interest in playing softball this year. This very important meeting will be held at 2:15 in room 196.


Girls Golf Meeting
Attention: Girl golfers
Want to learn a sport for a lifetime, meet new friends and enjoy the outdoors? Coach Healy is holding an informational meeting for all girls interested in playing on the golf team this spring. The meeting will be held on Friday, Feb. 24th at 2:20 in the main gym. No experience is necessary. Come and find out how much fun you can have being on the girls golf team. Career Center


Field Trip - UCONN Medical Center
A field trip is being planned to visit UCONN Medial Center for their Clinical Career Day. Permission slips are available in the Career Center.


FAFSA Assistance
Are you in need of FAFSA assistance? If so, please come to the Career Center to schedule an appointment. A representative will be at MHS on February 24 & 27 from 8:30am till 11:30am.


UCONN Conference
The University of CT Health Center is holding the "Bridge to the Future Science Mentoring Conference" on April 14 from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm. This is an interactive conference for students interested in health and biomedical sciences. For more information, please come to the the Career Center.



Driver Education


Driver education classes
MHS Driver Education offers two more classes during the school year. The first will start on Monday,February 27th. It is an evening class offered from 6 to 8pm especially for students with afterschool activities. The last class of the year will begin on Monday, April 9th and will be an afterschool session from 2:30 to 4:30. Students must be 16 years old to participate, but do not have to have learners' permits. Registration forms are available in guidance or the main office.



Guidance


CREC's Center for Creative Youth
Applications for the Center for Creative Youth 2012 Summer Residency in the Arts program at Wesleyan University are available in the Guidance Office. Courses are available in theater, creative writing, visual arts, photography, filmmaking, music (instumental, vocal) and dance. Deadline 3/1/12.


Capitol Region Interdistrict Leadership Academy
The Leadersship Academy is for sophomores and juniors and begins in April with orientation sessions followed by a week-long Outward Bounds expierence in June at the Colorado Outward Bound West School. Must have proven ability to lead, strong academic standing, ability to work with others, and an interest in and a commitment to community service. Information and applications are availble in the Guidance Office. Deadline - 3/23/12.



Scholarships


UConn 100 years of Women Scholarship
The UConn 100 Years of Women Scholarship will be awarding scholarships to high school seniors who will be attending UConn in the fall of 2012. Must demonstrate a commitment to women's issues through service to the community or school, be in financial need, and demonstrate high academic perfomance. Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline - 2/24/12.



Student Activities


French Club
The French Club’s trip to the Hill-Stead Museum has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 29. The bus will leave from the main entrance of the school at 12:45 p.m. and will return at 3:30 p.m. Participants will have a guided visit of the museum followed by a reception with French pastries and drinks and cultural group activities. Interested students should see Mr. Crochetière or Mr. Maidment as soon as possible to obtain a permission slip.


Frostival Cup
The Frostival Cup is on and runs through the Cupcake Wars tomorrow afternoon. You can score points for your class by participating in Spirit Week, Cupcake Wars, attending games, and participating in the Lip Sync. Class with the most points will win $500 to their class treasury! Get involved!


CCMC Toy Drive/Fundraiser
The Multicultural Club is running a toy drive until March 2nd to benefit Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Please bring in unused, unwrapped toys to benefit ill children and teenagers. Books and teddy bears would be greatly appreciated along with items for teenage boys and girls. If you do not wish to donate toys, we will also be accepting monetary donations in the cafeteria. Together, we can make a difference!


Lip Sync Canceled
Sadly, due to insufficient interest, the Lip Sync Competition scheduled for Thursday, February 23rd has been canceled. Students can begin thinking about the acts they would like to do at the annual Talent Show which is coming in April.


Cupcake Wars
Students interested in watching the cupcake war competition on Wednesday, February 22nd can pay $2 or bring in a new children's book to donate to the Books to Dreams program. Competition starts at 2:15 p.m. with a rules briefing and continues until 3:45 p.m. All students who watch and those who participate will be able to take the late bus home that afternoon.


Meeting, Young Men's Leadership Group
There will be a meeting of the Young Men's Ledership Group this Friday. The meeting will take place in room 293 during period 5. Students are asked to come directly to room 293 as the group will attend lunch during wave 4. All active members are asked to attend.


West Indian Club
Attention West Indian Club members. There will be a brief meeting today, after school in Room 290. The normal meeting scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled. Please try to attend today's meeting instead. Please see Mr. Curzan with any questions.
